The most common technical mistakes we see in Spanish SME websites, and how to fix them today.
We have been auditing SME websites for weeks and the same problems keep appearing. Some have been there for months untouched. These are mistakes Google sees, penalises, and that have straightforward fixes.

No HTTPS in 2026
It still exists. Google has been marking these sites as "not secure" in Chrome and penalising them in rankings for years. An SSL certificate is free with Let's Encrypt. Vercel and Cloudflare activate it in one click. No excuse.
Uncompressed images
A 3.5MB JPEG cover photo can push your LCP to 6-8 seconds. And LCP is one of the most direct ranking factors since the 2021 update. The fix is mechanical: WebP, exact dimensions, lazy loading for everything not in the first scroll.
Duplicate titles and meta descriptions
If all your pages have the same title or no meta description, Google does not know what to rank for each search. Each page needs a unique title of 50-60 characters and a meta description of 120-160 that invites clicks. Not advanced SEO — basic SEO that gets constantly ignored.
URLs like /page?id=123
"/services/web-development-madrid" ranks. "/page?id=123" does not. Descriptive URLs tell Google what the page is about before reading the content. They also increase CTR from results: people click on URLs they understand.
No XML sitemap
The sitemap tells Google what pages you have and how often they are updated. Without it, new pages can take weeks to be indexed. In Next.js it is generated automatically. In WordPress there are plugins that do it in 2 minutes.
The underlying problem
These 5 errors do not require a redesign or migration. They are technical changes that can be made in hours. What they require is knowing they exist, and the will to fix them.
